About

The world's foremost festival of opera, drama and classical music takes over Salzburg's great houses and squares for around six weeks every summer, anchored by the open-air 'Jedermann' on Domplatz in front of the cathedral.

Highlights

  • Hugo von Hofmannsthal's 'Jedermann' performed open-air on the Domplatz, a festival tradition since 1920.
  • World-class opera and orchestral concerts in the Großes Festspielhaus and Haus für Mozart.
  • An elegant summer atmosphere as the whole Old Town fills with festival-goers.

Practical tips

  • Top opera nights sell out months ahead; book as soon as the programme is released.
  • Look for 'Jedermann' and concert tickets if the big operas are gone.
  • Dress smart-casual to formal for evening performances.
